Southern Argentina

The latitude of many parts of Southern Argentina mean that it is best to avoid the winter months (unless you want to go skiing) of May to August. Generally, the finest weather is during the summer months between December and March. The most popular travel destinations and activities in Southern Argentina are wildlife watching in the Valdes Peninsula; trekking, fishing and outdoor activities around Bariloche in Argentina's Lake District (Patagonia); hiking and visiting the glaciers near El Calafate in Southern Patagonia; or a journey to the end of the earth - Tierra del Fuego, a great spot for outdoor activities and wildlife watching.

Travel around Southern Argentina

Argentina is a huge country, and distances between many places of interest in Souther Argentina is great. Travel by bus is very time consuming and not especially cheap, while catching domestic flights is more expensive but far more convenient. Most of the time Trelew, Bariloche, El Calafate and Ushuaia all have direct flights between each other, but not every day. See our South America travel tips blog for advice on booking Argentina domestic flights at a discount.
