Valdes Peninsula Tours
The Valdes Peninsula is a spectacular region for wildlife tours in Argentina. There are elephant seal, sea lion and penguin colonies nearby, breeding grounds for Southern right whales as well as much wildlife on the mainland in addition. Whale watching is possible from mid June until the end of November, though September to October are the best months to visit as baby whales can be seen. This is also the breeding season for seals. In February and March, killer whales can be seen attacking the seals.
In addition to wildlife tours, the bleak but beautiful landscape of the Valdes Peninsula is a major attraction for visitors, many of whom choose to stay in a remote estancia. Those who cannot afford an estancia on the peninsula itself, can find cheaper accommodation in the nearby town of Puerto Madryn, from where you can book an assortment of different tours.
Trelew
The Welsh community has greatly influenced the busy town of Trelew in Southern Argentina. There's Welsh festivals, Welsh churches and Welsh tea rooms in town and in nearby Gaiman. Nearby Punto Tombo is a ntaure reserve 100km Sputh of Trelew, where huge numbers of Magellanic penguins can be seen (penguin chicks can be seen from mid-November to February).
