Melbourne is the second largest city in Austrailia, and is the capital of the state of Victoria. Melbourne is considered to be one of the most cultured cities in Austrailia and features various museums, art galleries and theatres. Film festivals, operas and a vibrant coffee and wine scene make this an interesting city to visit. The international film festival is held in August.
There are numerous things to do in Melbourne. The city centre is good for shopping, cafes and people watching. Soak up the atmosphere. The docklands area has numerous shops, restaurants, bars and a waterside stadium where Aussie rules is popular. Eureka Tower is the tallest building South of the equator, and has fantastic views over Melbourne (and further a field in Austrailia!). The Parliament House of Victoria is also worth a visit. Queen Victoria market is very colourful, and if you’re into books you might want to see Melbourne State Library. The Southbank is a lovely riverside promenade with good restaurants and a Sunday craft market. Prahan is to the south of Melbourne and is very good for shopping. St Kilda is the famous beachside suburb and some of the beaches are very pretty. St Kila Pier is popular for a walk, and also for fishing. Melbourne zoo is also a popular vacation idea.
