Perth is the capital city of Western Austrailia, a huge, sparsely populated state with few inhabitants. Most people visit Perth and Western Austrailia for precisely that reason – because it is so remote with huge wilderness areas. The best thing to do in this state is to get off the beaten track. The are also some excellent beach hotels and resorts that can be visited.


Kimberley is way up the north of Western Austrailia – it’s very remote and has some outstanding natural scenery. The coastal area of Gascoyne has great beaches, fine hotels and coral reefs just as spectacular as the Great Barrier reef. Pilbara has various nature tourist attractions that make an interesting vacation side trip. There’s lots of great surfing beaches near Perth and on the Western coast too. There’s also some pretty agricultural areas nearby where those on holiday can participate in agrotourism, as well as lots of wineries that can be visited. There’s also lots of deserts that can be visited – you might arrange a desert safari in Perth.

Major towns in Western Australia include Perth, Albany, Broome (a chic beach resort type of place), Esperance (fantastic beaches), Exmouth (a good base for scuba diving), Freemantle (a trendy Perth suburb), Geraldton (great for surfing), Kalgoorlie and Kununurra (on the way to the Northern territory). Broome and Albany are generally two of the most visited town in Western Austrailia, there’s various hotels that can be booked online if visiting.

Margaret River is an excellent area for those interested in wine, wineries and visiting vineyards. Rottnest island is not far from Perth and is a popular beach retreat with a range of hotels from luxury to bed and breakfast. Purnululu National Park is now a UNESCO world heritage site, and is great for outback safaris by 4WD. Karijini National Park is a great place for hiking and trekking with some fantastic natural scenery to match. Coray Bay is the main gateway for visiting Ningaloo Bay, and excellent place for scuba diving. Travel to Mount Augustus which is just 900km from Perth and is the largest monolith in the world. Shark Bay is another UNESCO world heritage site in Western Austrailia and has good beaches and hotels and you might even go swimming with dolphins. Tours and excursion can be arranged to various nearby places of interest to those on vacation.

If taking an outback safari tour from Perth or anywhere in Western Austrailia, tourists need to bear in mind that this is a very remote region. There’s little water and petrol in the desert, so you must be very careful if one one of these safari tours.

The weather is hot year round. The North is tropical, the middle, around Perth, is more temperate and the south of Western Austrailia has more Mediterranean style weather. The weather in the interior is extremely hot - the climate here is one of desert. Overall, the weather in Perth and Western Austrailia is sunny.

For flights to Perth you can travel with either Qantas or Virgin Blue. Regular direct flights are in operation from Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin and Ayers Rock.
