The town of Otavalo in Ecuador is famous for the Saturday Indian market which dates back to pre Inca times. It is a must see on any vacation to Ecuador, though many tourists complain that the market has become overly touristy. The countryside surrounding Otavalo provides some excellent walking. Nearby Mojanda, with its highland lakes, is ideal for fishing, walking and horseback riding. There are some beautiful haciendas near Otavalo that provide great bases for such exploration and hiking.
