Cancoon Mexico: Top Vacation Tips

Cancoon, a specifically built vacation city, is the hub of the Riveria Maya in Mexico. With excellent beaches, great diving opportunities and a multitude of luxury 5 star resorts and hotels overlooking Cancoon beach, it is Mexico's premier package vacation destination. Charter flights operate into Cancoon and the nightlife can be wild, especially during Spring Break. There are various Mayan ruins that can be visited on a day tour. This vacation city in Mexico is definately not for everyone.

Cancoon Hotels & Resorts

There are so many hotels in Cancoon that we'll only offer a snippet of some that we think are superior to the other hotels. In reality, the range is immense, though all generally provide the same vacation experience: beaches and luxury in Mexico. Most of the more exclusive hotels are not in Cancun town itself, but on the surrounding coastline that has been dubbed the Riveria Maya.

Ambiance Villas at Kin Ha - a low-key resort is located on arguably Cancun’s finest powdery white sand beach, 10 minutes drive from the centre of town and near Pok-Ta-Pok golf course.

Avalon Baccara - an attractive hacienda-style hotel is located behind a lovely white sand beach within the main hotel zone of Cancoon.

Fiesta Americana Condesa Hotel - Recently refurbished, this modern hotel is located 30 minutess from the centre of town. The Fiesta Americana is set back from the road by lush tropical gardens with waterfalls.

Fiesta Americana Coral Beach - The Fiesta Americana Coral Beach is located on a beautiful, long stretch of white-powder beach. With over 600 rooms, this is one of the larger all inclusive resorts.

Omni Cancoon - This resort is located on a long white sand beach, ten minutes’ drive from the centre of Cancun. There are 350 rooms, 3 swimming pools, and a lovely terrace restaurant.

Westin Cancoon - an elegant hotel resort located in a secluded spot at the southern end of the main hotel strip. Its relative isolation makes it more relaxing than other hotels, though it is also slightly further away from the restaurants and nightlife.

Hyatt Regency - The Hyatt Regency is found in Cancoon's principal hotel zone facing the Carribean. The all inclusive resort has 300 rooms in total.

Dreams Cancoon - This all-inclusive (formerly known as the Camino Real) is a pyramid-shaped resort set at the tip of Punta Cancoon. Its wonderful location means it is surrounded by the Carribean sea on three sides, and has a fine white sand beach.

Cancoon Vacations: Tours available

Cancoon is an all inclusive vacation package type travel place, but there are numerous tours and excursions that visitors can undertake while staying an any of the luxury hotels in the city. Most common is the tour of Chichen Itza, some of the finest Maya ruins in Central America. There are also ruins at Tulum and Uxmal that can be reached in a day tour. Scuba diving, snorkelling and watersports are popular things to do in Cancun itself.

Flights

Cancun is served by an overwhelming number of airlines, most of them offering charter flights. All the major American airlines offer cheap flights to Cancoon. From Europe and the UK, the best options for cheap direct flights are with charter airlines - the only European carrier that has direct scheduled (non-charter) flights to Cancoon is Iberia. Other flights will be via Mexico City with a connecting flight with Mexicana, Aero Mexico or Aviacsa (normally the cheapest for internal / domestic flights).

Cancoon in Mexico is an excellent holiday destination for package tours and all inclusive resorts. There are cheap flights and great nightlife along with travel deals that can sometimes be found at the last minute. Hotels range from cheap budget hotels to 3, 4 and 5 star luxury all inclusive resorts. There are many excellent restaurants in the city, many of which are attached to the best hotels. In addition, tourists will find many casinos. Most hotels have casinos attached in addition to their being many casinos on the main strip for Mexico vacations. Spring break is a popular time to book an all inclusive tour. During Spring break, American high school kids descend on the city to relax on it's excellent beaches and to party hard all week. As such, Spring Break is a very good time to visit for those interested in party holidays, allbeit all inclusive packages. Car rental in Cancun isn't really necessary as most visitors will remain in the same part of the Yucatan peninsula or Riviera Maya. For those considering travelling further afield to some of Mexico's other tourist attractions, car rental would be a good idea though. The weather is on the whole very good. As it is in the Carribean, the weather is normally hot and sunny year round, though humidity levels will vary according to the season. When is the best time to visit? Depends on your interests, though many often try to avoid the hurricane season which varies though normally runs from July through until November. The hurricane season normally sees one hurricane come at least close to this package holiday city.

With so many hotels to choose from it's hard to know where to start. Don't get to hung up on which hotel you book - all offer similar holiday experiences. The Riu hotels are some of the better ones in this Mexico vacations town. The Riu resorts are on the whole all inclusive resorts that have a high level of service. Book the Riu Caribe hotels online for the best discounts. The Grand Oasis is also one of Cancun's most popular hotels. The Hilton hotel is one of the oldest and most lavish hotels in Mexico. Other hotels include the Park Royal, Grand Oasis and the Paradisus Riviera. Consider booking well in advance if visiting during the peak tourism season. You might also contemplate the Royal Sands, the Desire Resort and spa, the JW Marriott or the NH Krystal. With such a range of options, tours are spoilt for choice. It's always worth requesting a discount if you are booking last minute. The Crown Paradise Club, Gran Melia, Secrets Capri Riviera and Ritz Carlton are options you could try. One thing that the hotels have in common is their excellent beaches. In fact, Cancoon's beaches are the principal reason why people come here at all - the beaches are said to be "air conditioned" (ie. they don't burn your feet when they're hot!) The Grand Oasis hotel is a great example of where making the hotel reservation online will give the best travel deals and prices. On the other hand, the Moon Palace hotel is operated by Thomsons for package holiday deals from the UK - only bookable with Thomson's holidays. The same is true of the Cancoon Palace, The Royal Solaris, Barcelo Costa and the Secret Excellence Riviera..... Other package holiday specialists in UK include Club Med, in addition to Thomsons. An island popular for day trips nearby is Isla Mujeres, which also has a range of hotels suitable for most budgets. Holbox island is not far away either, is is often one of the best value places to book a hotel for trips to Mexico on the beaches.

Travel to Cancoon needn't be about staying in a luxury hotel. There's also villa rentals and condo rentals available. Many tour operators offers villas, condos and apartments for rent that offer an alternative for travel in this part of Mexico.
